George Miller Teases Another MAD MAX Sequel If “The Planets Align”

George Miller isn’t done with the wasteland just yet. While the legendary director has already brought us Mad Max: Fury Road and last year’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, both of which were badass movies, he recently hinted that another Mad Max installment could happen under the right circumstances.

“I’ve got another script,” Miller told Vulture, revealing that there’s still more story left to tell. But as much as he’d love to revisit the post-apocalyptic world he helped create, he’s got a few other projects lined up first.

“Having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories, not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays,”

“I’m a professional daydreamer, really. This was seen as my big deficit as a kid: ‘George would do better at school if he didn’t daydream so much,’ was on my report card.”

That imagination has fueled some of the most visually stunning and intense action films in modern cinema, but even with another Mad Max script ready, Miller isn’t rushing into it.

“It is not something I would do next, because there’s two things I’m keen to do next.”

“But if for whatever reason the planets align, you can never tell. Too often, you’re lining up to do a movie and then something happens. Some things fall into place and some don’t, so all I can say is we’ll see.

Miller’s Mad Max saga saw a resurgence with Fury Road, which introduced Tom Hardy as the new Max Rockatansky, teaming up with Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa to escape the rule of the warlord Immortan Joe.

As you know, the film had a chaotic shoot and everyone knows about the behind-the-scenes tensions between Hardy and Theron, and Hardy has expressed doubts about returning for the rumored The Wasteland prequel.

Last year he was asked about the possibility of retiring to the franchise, and he said: “I don’t think that’s happening.”

Meanwhile, Furiosa saw Anya Taylor-Joy step into the role originated by Theron, alongside Chris Hemsworth in a villainous turn. While the film didn’t quite capture the same level of cultural explosion as Fury Road, it proved that Miller’s world still has plenty of stories to tell.

So, will we see another Mad Max movie? If the stars (or planets) align, maybe!
