George Miller's MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Sequel Might Be Back on Track
I’ve got some optimistic news to share with you regarding the long-awaited sequel to director George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. I thought the sequels that Miller wanted to make were dead due to a legal battle between the director and Warner Bros.
Well, maybe the sequel is back on track to getting made. Fandango’s Erick Davis recently shared the following update on Twitter:
So WORLD WAR Z 2 is officially dead and not happening... BUT... I'm hearing whispers of another sequel that's beginning to rev its engines... pic.twitter.com/eFyRkC2kh0

Just a note that I do not have any further details apart from what is above, and, like anything - including WWZ2 - there's always a chance it doesn't happen. But I am hopeful...

I’ve heard similar talk from people I know but was asked not to say anything. Now that someone else is saying it, though, I guess it’s ok to talk about!
From previous interviews with Miller, it was made clear that Charlize Theron's Furiosa will be the focus of the next film, and he explained:
"Yeah, she’s a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story. Her backstory is really interesting. We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don’t have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up, you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That’s what the film is trying to do. You’re trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying. One of the things that’s really gratifying, people are reading the film more than just the surface — the events of the movie, and just picking up a lot of stuff underneath it, which is very deliberate......So in many ways, the audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa — or enough to intrigue. And she’s got an interesting story."
I really hope that we actually get another Mad Max film. It’s crazy to me that after the success of Fury Road, a sequel didn’t happen sooner. The filmmaker already has scripts ready to go for two more Mad Max movies! Let’s hope he gets them made!
