George Romero's Unproduced RESIDENT EVIL Movie Will Be the Subject of a New Documentary

There was a point in director George Romero‘s career when he was looking to make a Resident Evil movie. In 1998, Romero pitched his Resident Evil film with a script that he had written to Constantin Films.

Romero’s original script eventually leaked online, and it was ambitious and stayed relatively close to the source material. It would have been really cool to see Romeo actually pull it off. Unfortunately, Capcom didn’t like the script due to its violent content, which is funny because IT’S A ZOMBIE MOVIE. Romero did direct a Japanese Resident Evil 2 commercial at one point, though, which was awesome.

Well, a documentary is going into development that will dive in and explore Romero’s unmade Resident Evil movie. That doc is coming from Jason Bareford, Romero’s Production Assistant, and director Brandon Salisbury, and it will be titled George A. Romero’s Resident Evil.

During an interview with The Resident Evil Podcast, Salisbury shared that he was looking to pay homage to Romero’s style and the game itself with George A. Romero’s Resident Evil. The doc will take place in a mansion that will be reminiscent of Resident Evil‘s Spencer Mansion, and it will be shot to mimic Romero’s filmmaking style.

Resident Evil was eventually made by Paul W.S. Anderson which came from a script titled Undead, which was reworked into the Resident Evil film that was released in 2002.

George A. Romero’s Resident Evil will be released at some point in 2024.
