George R.R. Martin Says the Jon Snow GAME OF THRONES Series Was All Kit Harington's Idea

Not long ago we learned that HBO was developing a Game of Thrones sequel series that would focus on Jon Snow. The excitement level was pretty low when the series was announced, and I wondered why, out of all the more interesting characters that the show could have focused on, they decided to go with Jon Snow.

Well, we now know the reason why. George R.R. Martin recently opened up about the show and said Kit Harrington and his team were the ones who pulled it all together. It was all Kit Harington’s idea. Martin shared on his site that the potential series is called Snow, and explained:

“Yes, it was Kit Harington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/ showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet. But Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific… I am involved, just as I am with The Hedge Knight and The Sea Snake and Ten Thousand Ships, and all the animated shows. Kit’s team have visited me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my own team of brilliant, talented writer/ consultants to hammer out the show.”

Martin went on to remind fans that none of these potential series project are guaranteed to go forward. As of right now, House of the Dragon is the only one that’s been ordered to series. Martin said, “All four of these successor shows are still in the script stage. The likelihood of all four series getting on the air… well, I’d love it, but that’s not the way it works, usually.”

In a separate interview with BBC, Harington’s former Game of Thrones co-star, Emilia Clarke, confirmed the news as well, saying, “He has told me about it, and I know it exists. It’s happening. It’s been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he’s in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harrington.”

When asked if she would return to the series, Clarke said, “No, I think I’m done.” So, don’t expect her to show up in the series if it moves forward.
