George R.R. Martin Says There Are Three GAME OF THRONES Spinoff Shows "Moving Forward Nicely"
With Game of Thrones coming to an end soon, HBO is planning on keeping the stories from Westeros going with several possible series that are in development. According to author George R.R. Martin, three of the five shows that have been in development are “still moving forward nicely.”
He wrote in a blog post, “The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer.”
The Long Night series he is referring to comes from Jane Goldman and Martin and it stars Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse. The series is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, “the project chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” The network teased the plot with the following logline:
"Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it's not the story we think we know."
I’m excited to see this new spinoff series and I’m curious to learn more about the other shows that are currently in development. It’ll be interesting to see how many Game of Thrones spinoff shows HBO ends up producing in the next few years.
