George R.R. Martin Wrote Hundreds of Pages of THE WINDS OF WINTER in 2020, But He's Still Not Finished
Early last year when the world first locked down due to the pandemic, George R.R. Martin said that he was spending most of his time in Westeros writing the long-awaited book The Winds of Winter. He said:
“I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going in to town or seeing anyone. Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day. Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.”
Fans were hoping that he would actually finish the book during this time, but that’s not the case. However, he still did get a lot of work done! In a recent update on his personal blog, he shared that he’s written hundreds of pages:
"I wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of The Winds of Winter in 2020. The best year I’ve had on [Winds of Winter] since I began it.”
That’s great news, but how close is he to actually finishing the book? Well, unsurprisingly it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen anytime soon:
"I need to keep rolling, though. I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion. That’s what 2021 is for, I hope. I will make no predictions on when I will finish."
Martin previously said that he hoped he would finish the book in 2021, but that has yet to be seen. I’m not holding my breath. One day the book will be finished and released, but it seems like there’s still a long way to go.
