Last year, Marvel announced that they were bringing a new series focusing on the character Ms. Marvel to Disney+. The show was scheduled to begin filming this summer, but of course got the pandemic push-back. Now it seems that the gears are turning again in Hollywood, and the show still has 2021 as its release, so fans are expecting it to begin shooting soon. The executives have been very quiet about this particular project, and we have not yet heard who will play the role of the Pakistani-American teenager from New Jersey, who becomes the newest holder of the Ms. Marvel identity. But fans have some ideas.

The frontrunner from the fans’ point of view is actress Geraldine Viswanathan, who has proved her acting chops in film and TV roles like Blockers, Hala, Bad Education, and Miracle Workers. While promoting her most recent film, rom-com The Broken Hearts Gallery, Viswanathan talked to ScreenRant about her rumored role as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, saying:

“Oh God, it’s so flattering. And she’s my favorite superhero by far, so it’s really cool. But I have low expectations; whatever will be will be. They’ll find the perfect Miss Marvel, and I’m really excited to see it.”

So she either doesn’t know for sure, or she is sworn to secrecy. Either way, I hope she gets the part, and I expect that we will hear the final word soon. Here’s the description that has been talked about for the show:

Despite her traditional roots, Kamala was the typical American teenager. Wanting to be herself, but still make her family proud. For several years, Kamala was a fan of superheroes especially the Avengers and, more importantly, Carol Danvers. So much, in fact, that she started writing online fan-fiction about the Avengers and Captain Marvel. Even going as far as joining the Carol Danvers Corps online.

The series is being developed by British writer Bisha K. Ali, who will write and act as showrunner. Are you excited for this Ms. Marvel series?
