Gerard Butler Drops out of POINT BREAK Remake

Gerard Butler was set to play the character Bohdi in the Point Break remake currently in development. This is the character that Patrick Swayze played in the original 1991 film. Butler is no longer attached the project.

According to THR, sources say that he left due to a variety of reasons, a couple of which were creative differences and a scheduling conflicts. I actually thought Butler would be great in the movie. He's the only reason I was interested in seeing it.

The plan is to start shooting the movie in June, and the studio will recast the part in the coming weeks. Luke Bracey is set to play hotshot FBI agent Johnny Utah, who was originally played by Keanu Reeves.

Ericson Core is directing the movie from a script by Kurt Wimmer. One of the producers of the film, Broderick Johnsonpreviously talked about the remake, comparing it to the original by saying:

The script only shares in common with the original the characters and the nature of the character dynamic between Utah and Bodhi and their relationship.  Everything else about the movie is different. The narrative of the movie is different. While we do have surfing in the film, it is only a subset of the extreme sports that we deal with, including free-climbing, motocross, wing-suiting, and so forth. The movie is being shot in 10 countries across the globe.

I hope they are able to bring on another talented actor to fill the role. Do any of you have any suggestions of who you think would be a good fit?
