Get Over Here! New Poster for MORTAL KOMBAT Featuring Scorpion and Sub-Zero

Yesterday the first trailer for Mortal Kombat dropped, and for the most part, fans seemed to like what it had to offer! It’s going to be filled with all the blood and violence that fans of the franchise have enjoyed over the years, and I’m hoping that the story will be somewhat decent.

The new poster puts the spotlight on the fan-favorite characters Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The film actually kicks off with a background story for these two characters. It’s “a crucial piece of lore from the original games: the blood feud between the clans of Hanzo and Bi-Han.” The 10-minute opening sequence is set in feudal Japan, “long before these fighters wielded supernatural abilities as Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and it ends in a pretty nasty hand-to-hand combat between the two.” It’s explained that “Hanzo's the leader of a ninja clan and he's strong, but also… at the beginning, he's a peaceful family man. It is like a family drama with excitingly brutal fighting.”

The movie centers on MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) who “is unaware of his heritage - or why Outworld’s Emperor seeks to hunt him down. Cole finds sanctuary under Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. Will Cole be able to unleash his arcana in time to stop the Outworld once and for all?”

The film comes to us from producer James Wan and director Simon McQuoid. Mortal Kombat is scheduled to be released in theaters and on HBO Max on April 16th.
