Getty Images Watermark Spotted in CRISIS CORE -FINAL FANTASY VII- REUNION
I’m excited for the recently launched Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion. I actually enjoy Crisis Core on the PSP despite the fact that I never finished it and the remake looks fantastic. I’ve heard it’s pretty darn faithful to the original game, and that has brought up a glaring goof. Over at Kotaku, Zack Zwiezen noticed something odd about a painting that appears in the eighth chapter of the game. Inside of the Shinra mansion, you’ll see many fancy paintings decorating the hallways. It turns out that one of these paintings has a Getty Images watermark!
This is hilarious and sad to me. Square Enix is not a small company and if there’s a watermark, that typically means that the artwork was not purchased. I’m sure they could’ve afforded to buy this image. In fact, Zwiezen found the exact image which happens to be Ludgate Circus, London, 1881 by John Crowther. It appears the team at Square Enix did do some cropping for the painting. I don’t know if this art was meant to be a placeholder or if they were trying to purchase it or if they were just being a little careless, but it’s really funny to me that any Final Fantasy game has an image with a watermark in it.
That being said, there is an important thing to say. Dear Square Enix, please purchase the art you put in your video games. It makes you look a combination of foolish, silly, and jerky.
