GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Confirmed To Involve The Descendants of the Original Ghostbusters

Thanks to Dan Aykroyd, we have some new insight to share with you regarding director Jason Rietman’s Ghostbusters 3. Fans have speculated that the new film could center around Egon’s family. Well, it seems like this theory is correct. It’s been confirmed that the new movie will involve the descendants of the original Ghostbusters.

Fox News had a chance to talk to Aykroyd on the red carpet at the opening of Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights recently, and when asked about the next film, he said:

“Although the girls’ movie kept the concept and the ideas alive — and it was really good, they were great in it — it wasn’t like giving it to the new generation, the actual descendants of the original Ghostbusters. So we’re going to link to the DNA old and new there.”

While Aykroyd doesn’t confirm that the DNA in question belongs to Egon, it seems safe to assume this is what he’s hinting at. One thing is for sure, the descendants of the original team will be a part of the story. The actor went on to say:

“I think it’s a wonderful story because people seem to continue to be interested in 35 years after we came out with the first one. And I think we’re trying to expand it a little bit. And I think Jason’s movie does that. This is a story about a family.”

The Movie stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace. They will be joined by Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim. It’s also said that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson will return to reprise their roles.

Reitman wrote the film with Monster House director Gil Kenan, and it will be a love letter to the original movie. It’s also been reported that it will “focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to ‘learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.’”

The new Ghostbusters movie is slated to hit theaters on July 10th, 2020.
