GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Director Teases Ideas For a Sequel and Shares GHOSTBUSTERS 2 References
Fans seem to have been enjoying director Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and a lot of people are wondering if there will be a sequel. With the moving having success at the box office, a sequel is definitely a possibility.
During an interview with Uproxx, Reitman was asked about Egon Spengler choosing to remove the Ghostbusters II logo from the Ecto-1, and replacing it with the original. It’s here that Reitman teases a plot line he might explore in a sequel. He said:
"I wish I could talk to you about that. I'm just saying that's a plot that is not in this film and we have ideas moving forward.”
Reitman went on to confirm that Ghostbusters II is canon, which is obvious if you’ve seen Ghostbusters: Afterlife. But in case you missed the references and Easter eggs, Reitman pointed them out, saying:
"Ghostbusters 2, definitely canon. There are references to Ghostbusters 2 in Afterlife. We meet Ray working at Ray's Occult. The toaster from Ghostbusters 2 is in the kitchen in the farmhouse. There's actually lots of Ghostbusters 2 details but nobody knows Ghostbusters 2 outside of Vigo the Carpathian and the Ghostbusters 2 logo. So there's this assumption that it is not canon but it is definitely canon."
In the story for the film, Egon Spangler’s family moves to a small town where they learn about their grandfather’s legacy and that he used to catch ghosts for a living. I love the story of a couple of kids slowly discovering something incredible about their grandpa and his legacy.
The synopsis reads, “A single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”
The movie was directed by Jason Reitman and stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd. Original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver also return.
The movie is currently playing in theaters and you should watch it!
