GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Director Teases Possible Return of Vigo The Carpathian
I don’t care what anyone says, I love Ghostbusters 2, and Vigo The Carpathian was a great villain! I honestly never expected to see the return of Vigo, even with Ghostbusters: Afterlife continuing the franchise. But, it sounds like we might actually see the return of Vigo one day!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman teased the possible return of Vigo telling the Happy Sad Confused podcast:
"There is a lot of time and opportunity for Vigo The Carpathian to make his return. Look, are you saying that's the only painting of Vigo The Carpathian? Maybe, he's riding a horse in another one, maybe, impaling someone in another one.”
It sure would be cool to see Vigo come back for another story. The villain was previously played by Wilhelm von Homburg back in the 1989 film, but he’s since passed away, so if they do bring Vigo back, the creative team will have to recast him. Max Von Sydow provided the voice of the character.
Vigo is also known as Prince Vigo Von Homburg Deutschendorf, Scourge of Carpathia, Sorrow of Moldavia, Vigo the Carpathian, Vigo the Cruel, Vigo the Torturer, Vigo the Despised, Vigo the Unholy and he is an ancient 16th Century medieval tyrant and sorcerer. It was said he was a powerful magician and a genius in many ways, as well as an autocrat, a lunatic and a genocidal madman. Because he was so evil he wasn't well liked by his subjects and he killed hundreds of them. He later died in the 17th century. His people led a rebellion against him and they tried and executed him in a manner that they saw fit for his rule. He was poisoned, shot, stabbed, hung, stretched, disemboweled, drawn and quartered.
Just before his head died, he uttered this prophetic warning: "Death is but a door. Time is but a window. I'll be back!" Then he showed up in Ghostbusters 2 and tried to take over the world on New Years eve.
Would you like to see Vigo make a comeback in a new Ghostbusters project?
