GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE Star Kumail Nanjiani Says the Sequel Is "Really, Genuinely Scary"
The next film in the Ghostbusters franchise is the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which will reunite the new cast members from Ghostbusters: Afterlife, including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, with original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, and newcomers Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, comedian James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
In this new movie, “the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”
The trailer teases a much darker film, wherein New Yorkers are freezing to death, and the ghosts are maybe scarier than ever. Star of the film Kumail Nanjiani confirms the terrifying aspects of the movie, telling UPI in a recent interview (via /Film):
"There's some really, genuinely scary stuff. The scary stuff is actually scary. The danger is very real and the stakes are very high. That makes the comedy even funnier."
Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer and executive producer Gil Kenan is directing the sequel, with Afterlife director and co-writer Jason Reitman serving as writer and executive producer. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire hits theaters on March 29, 2024. Are you looking forward to the frights that are seemingly promised in this next Ghostbusters movie?
