GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE Will Include an "Egon Spengler Type" Character Played by James Acaster
Some new details have emerged for a new character being introduced to the Ghostbusters franchise in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The character’s name is Lars Pinfield, and he’s played by British comedian and podcaster James Acaster.
Pinfield is described as “a man responsible for some of the fresh tech being funded by Ernie Hudson’s Winston – and he’s set to fit firmly into the Ghostbusters universe.” Producer Jason Retiman goes on to say in an interview with Empire that he is an Egon Spengler-type character, saying: “James is not playing a Spengler, but he really falls in line with the Egon Spengler ‘type’.”
It looks like he could be either a fun or annoying character. We’ll find out soon enough, but it makes sense that the creative team would want to bring in a new young tech guy to create some new Ghostbusting gear.
In the story, New York City finds itself freezing over due to an ancient artifact that unleashes an evil force! Also, the original Ghostbusters return! The synopsis reads:
In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer and executive producer Gil Kenan is directing the sequel, with Afterlife director and co-writer Jason Reitman serving as writer and executive producer. The movie also stars Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, comedian James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind have joined the cast.
