GHOSTBUSTERS Reboot Won't Hold Back on the Scares

When some plot details leaked out about the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot being developed by director Paul Feig, there were a lot of mixed reactions. Some fans seemed on board with the idea, but most of them hated it. Those leakedideas may not make it into the final film, but it gave us a sense of where they're headed with it.

During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the director talked a little bit more about his version of the movie. A couple of the main points he makes is that he wants the movie to be seriously scary, but also maintain a PG-13 rating.

"I want ours to be scarier than the original, to be quite honest. Katie Dippold and I are so focused on wanting to do scary comedy. We don't want to hold back."

The first Ghostbusters film wasn't necessarily supposed to be about the scares. It was about the story and the comedy, which is why I love it so much. Feig has a knack for comedy, though, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table with that. He went on to say that he would like to make an R-rated version, but he'll restrain himself.

"The reason I do a lot of R-Rated comedies is that you want a movie to feel honest. But the Ghostbusters world doesn't need that level of swearing. We'll have to be PG-13 with this one. I would like to make it R-Rated, but I won't. You want the biggest number of people to watch it and not be put off by it."

I'm not even sure what an R-rated Ghostbusters movie would be like. The original film was rated PG, but they managed to get away with a lot of dirty jokes. PG-13 films didn't exist when the movie came out. I'm sure the kids didn't know what was going on when that ghost unzipped Ray's pants and gave him a blow job.

I'm curious to see what Feig actually does with this franchise. It's going to be really hard to outdo the original though. I'm pretty confident that it won't, but maybe it will at least provide some fun entertainment and give hardcore Ghostbusters fans something to complain about.
