G.I. JOE 3 Might Include Tomax, Xamot and a M.A.S.K. Character
Director DJ Caruso is in the process of developing G.I. Joe 3 for Paramount Pictures. As much as I've enjoyed the films that Caruso has made, I don't think he will be able to save this franchise. The first two movies weren't good at all. I'm surprised that they haven't rebooted it yet, which is something they should have done after the first film.
Regardless of how you feel about the franchise, the third movie is happening, and we have some new information to share with you that comes from Film Divider. They claim to know three new characters that will be included in the story.
The site says that the villainous twins Tomax and Xamot are going to be in the film. The two characters worked as mercenaries before becoming merchant bankers. They owned a company named Extensive Enterprises, managed Cobra's business affairs, and lead the elite Crimson Guard force.
The twins are also empathically bonded, so they feel each other’s pain, can communicate silently, and one of the main things you might remember about them is that they finish each other's sentences.
I always liked these characters, and I'm sure if this rumor turns out to be true they'll fit right in with whatever Caruso is planning. It's not really surprising that they would eventually be invited to come and play in the movie universe. Apparently the studio is looking to cast one actor to play both roles.
The next character that is said to be included in the movie is very surprising, though! The report says that Matt Trakker will be involved. For those of you not familiar with the character, he was the lead heroic character in the 1980s cartoon series M.A.S.K. a.k.a. Mobile Armored Strike Kommand.
I loved that show and toy line, and I think it should get its own big screen adaptation one day. The fact that one of those characters might be included in G.I. Joe is interesting. It makes me wonder if they would be helping set up a spinoff M.A.S.K. movie. It would definitely allow for them to introduce more characters from the property into the G.I. Joe universe, perhaps as private contractors. The report suggests that "the Marvel movies have proved how much success can be mined from stories about billionaire philanthropists trying to clean up their own messes." So why not do the same thing with these Hasbro universe characters?
The crossover between the two franchises was established in the toy lines too. When Hasbro bought Kenner, they folded the series together and a new Trakker action figure was released, and he was reinvented in the form of a G.I. Joe mission specialist.
I'm curious to see if any of these rumors come to pass. I guess we'll find out soon enough. G.I. Joe 3 will hit theaters in 2016.
