Giancarlo Esposito Says He's Love to Play Professor X in Marvel's X-MEN Reboot, But Wonders If He Could Ditch the Wheelchair

Actor Giancarlo Esposito, best known for his roles in Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian has said on a couple occasions that he would like to take on the role of Professor Xavier aka Professor X in the impending X-Men reboot that Marvel is poised to make in the upcoming phases of the MCU. Fans as a whole are keen on the idea of seeing Esposito in the role, but the actor feels like he might want to make an adjustment to the iconic character.

In a recent interview with Fade To Black (via CBM), Esposito explained:

"I've given it a cursory glance in my brain, and immediately I go 'Hmm, [It would] be great to play Professor X in some other incarnation than just the wheelchair. Right? Because the physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don't feel that old and I don’t like to sit that much. But certainly, we could figure something out maybe. Professor X wasn’t always in the wheelchair but that is part of his character development. So, I think about it a little bit but I don’t give it all of my thought because it would have to come to me."

I think actors have done a lot worse to play characters than sit for long period of time. It’s kind of integral to Professor X. But maybe they could skew the story in a way that accommodates the actor. What do you think? I do think he’d be great in the role.
