Gillian Anderson Was Supposed to Play Princess Leia in AMERICAN GODS Season 2
Bryan Fuller and Michael Green had some interesting plans for Gillian Anderson in American Gods season two before they were fired and Anderson quit.
Anderson played Media, one of the New Gods, in the series and she would take on the identity of multiple pop culture characters. In a tweet posted by Fuller, which has since been deleted, he revealed that Anderson would have played Princess Leia and Mr. Rogers. Here’s what he said:
"Me and [Green] never abandoned American Gods. We were dedicated to cast, crafted the season, wrote 5 episodes, even had Media as Mr. Rogers & Princess Leia. We were in the process of reducing scope due to a dramatic budget reduction when we were fired."
Anderson has since been replaced by Kahyun Kim, and I guess there might still be a chance that Media will take on the personas of these characters. But it won’t be as cool or as interesting to see her as these two characters as it would be to see Anderson play them.
With the series pretty much going through an overhaul with season two, I imagine these plans have been ditched. If you saw the trailer for American Gods season two, I’m sure you noticed it looks like a reboot of season one. We’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
I hope season two ends up being good! It’s just a shame that we won’t be able to enjoy Anderson playing Princess Leia and Mr. Rogers in it.
