Gina Rodriguez will Play an Ex-Solider in Netflix's New Sci-Fi Thriller AWAKE
Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Awake has scored its star with Gina Rodriguez. Rodriguez will be playing the role of “an ex-soldier with a troubled past.” Pretty generic description, but OK. Awake will be directed by Mark Raso with the script being written by Greg Poirier and Joseph Raso.
“The story is set after a sudden global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, and chaos quickly begins to consume the world. Rodriguez’s character may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter while she faces the prospect of saving the world before she herself loses her mind.”
That premise reminds me a bit of I Am Legend. I’ve only seen Rodriguez in Jane the Virgin, so it’s still weird for me to imagine her in what sounds like a more action role.
