GLADIATOR 2 is Being Hyped as Having The "Biggest Action Sequences Ever Put on Film"

Paramount Pictures recently screened some footage of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 at the 2024 CineEurope trade show, and it was the main event of their presentation.

While we got to see some awesome footage from the movie at CinemaCon, according to Variety, CineEurope attendees were treated to some epic and never-before-seen extended footage from the movie.

Before the footage was screened, Scott said in a video introduction that this sequel was “well worth the wait.” Paramount’s president of international theatrical distribution, Mark Viane, also hyped the film, saying that it features some of the “biggest action sequences ever put on film.”

That’s some pretty big hype! While I’m sure that the film will feature some epic action sequences, I doubt they will be the biggest ever put on film. There are so many incredibly epic action sequences that have been put in movies and I don’t see how anything will top what The Lord of the Rings delivered.

There are so many films with massive action sequences, so it’s hard to believe that Gladiator 2 will feature the biggest ever put on film. But, we’ll have to wait and see.

The sequel centers on Lucius, the son of Lucilla, and nephew of Commodus, the son of Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who murdered his father and seized the throne.

Commodus met his downfall in the gladiator ring against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, took down the emperor before passing on to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucius and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the young boy.

Scott revealed some additional story details, specifically for Lucius, who is played by Paul Mescal in the movie, saying: “[Lucius] has been out in the wilderness for.. let’s see, we last saw him when he was 12.”

He added: “It’s about 12, 15 years later, he’s been out in the wilderness having lost touch with his mother. His mother lost touch with him. She doesn’t know where he is. She thinks he might be dead.”

The movie stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen back as Lucilla, and Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta. Fred Hechinger will play Emperor Caracalla.

The movie hits theaters November 22nd!
