Glen Powell Plots Hilarious Family Carnage in Trailer For A24’s HOW TO MAKE A KILLING
A24 has dropped the first fun and stylish trailer for How to Make a Killing and it tees up a wickedly funny crime tale about greed, revenge, and one very determined black sheep.
If you’re into dark comedy thrillers that lean into outrageous plotting and sharp character work, this one looks ready to deliver.
How to Make a Killing marks the second feature from John Patton Ford, who previously made Emily the Criminal. This time he’s taking on a full remake of the 1949 British dark comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets, reworking its premise for a modern audience while keeping its wildly twisted core.
In the story, disowned at birth by his outrageously rich family, Becket Redfellow decides to take back what he believes is rightfully his. The catch is that seven relatives stand between him and an enormous inheritance.
Ford’s film leans into the absurdity of that mission with sleek style and an ensemble that knows how to handle sharp, villainous humor.
The studio describes the film with a tagline that perfectly sums up the vibe, "Heir today, gone tomorrow." It sits in the trailer like a wink to the audience, promising a playful and vicious ride.
Becket Redfellow is played by Glen Powell, who seems to be having a blast leaning into a darker comedic tone. Powell has been on a hot streak lately, but this role might show off a new side of him as a blue-collar man sharpening his skills for a calculated climb back up his family tree.
He’s joined by an impressive supporting cast that includes Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Ed Harris.
The trailer paints a picture of a glossy world where wealth is suffocating, immaculate, and completely out of reach for someone like Becket. That contrast sets the stage for a darkly funny class battle filled with murder plots, outrageous set pieces, and a tone that feels sly and playful rather than grim.
A24 will release the film in US theaters on February 20, 2026. I’m looking forward to watching this!
