Glen Powell Reportedly in Talks With DC Studios for a Major Role That Could Span Multiple Projects
Glen Powell might be getting ready to join James Gunn’s DC Universe, and whatever role he’s reportedly discussing sounds like it could keep him busy for years.
According to insider Jeff Sneider, Powell has been having conversations with DC Studios about a significant role that would involve a long-term commitment. Sneider shared that he’s “heard Glen Powell has been in talks with DC about a big role that requires a major commitment/multiple options.”
That's certainly interesting, especially since Powell has become one of Hollywood's most popular leading men thanks to films like Top Gun: Maverick and the various other projects he’s appeared in.
The actor actually has a little history with DC, having played a Wall Street trader in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012. Now he could be returning to the world of DC Comics in a much bigger capacity.
Sneider mentioned the potential casting while discussing DC Studios' development of a new John Constantine movie. While the timing might suggest a connection, there's no indication that Powell is being considered to play the supernatural detective.
So, who could he be playing? DC Studios has several major characters waiting to make their debut in Gunn's new DCU, and Powell could be a great fit for a few of them.
Batman is probably the first character that comes to mind. DC Studios is developing The Brave and the Bold, which will introduce a version of the Dark Knight who already has an established Bat-Family. Powell is at an age where he could convincingly play an experienced Bruce Wayne raising and mentoring younger heroes.
It would also be a massive commitment, especially considering how important Batman will likely be to the future of the DCU.
Another possibility is Booster Gold. DC Studios has been developing a television series centered on the time-traveling superhero, and Powell has the charisma and comedic timing to pull off the character's cocky, fame-hungry personality.
He could have a lot of fun with that role, although it's unclear whether Booster Gold would require the kind of extensive franchise commitment Sneider describes.
There’s also the possibility that Powell could take on Green Arrow. Oliver Queen seems like a natural fit for the actor, who could easily bring the character's humor, confidence, and attitude to the big screen.
Green Arrow enjoyed a lengthy television run with Arrow on The CW, but the character still hasn't received his own theatrical movie. Powell could be a great choice to introduce a new version of the character on the big screen.
Of course, all of this is speculation. Sneider's report doesn't identify the character Powell is discussing, and DC Studios hasn't officially confirmed that negotiations are taking place.
Still, the possibility of Powell signing on for a major, multi-project DCU role is exciting. He's got the screen presence, personality, and star power to carry a superhero franchise, and Gunn has plenty of characters who could benefit from those qualities.
The big question is whether DC Studios wants Powell to become one of the central faces of its superhero universe or introduce a character fans aren't expecting.
