Glen Powell Teases Upcoming Film TWISTERS Calling It "A Completely Original Story"

Glen Powell is making his mark on Hollywood, beefing up his career with the 2022 mega hit Top Gun: Maverick, and previously starring in Hidden Figures and The Bad Guys, he just made a splash with his raunchy rom com, Anyone But You. The actor just wrapped production on his upcoming film, Twisters, a highly anticipated new chapter in the Twister story that was started with the first film in classic 1996 film, which starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.

Fans wondered for many years if this new film would be a sequel or a remake, but Powell says this new movie is a completely original story set in that same world.

In a recent interview with Vogue, the actor talked about the film and what we can expect from it, saying:

“We just wrapped it a couple nights ago. It’s definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one. It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern-day. I don’t think anyone has brought up this movie in forever, but talking to people, they’re like, ‘That was one of my favorite movies growing up. That movie terrified me.’ When I was working on Top Gun, [Tom] Cruise brought up a really interesting thing, where he’s like, ‘If you want to make movies of a certain size and scope and scale, you have to figure out what can connect with everyone around the world in every territory.’ And humans versus weather is a very universal idea—how powerless we really are in the face of these cataclysmic forces.”

The first movie is fantastic, and if they make a movie that has as great of a story with what I’m assuming will be even better graphics, I think this film will be great. It’s funny though, as everyone always complains that Hollywood has no original ideas, I think audiences would have been really happy to have seen the original cast back (besides Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who have since passed away) for a sequel.

Twisters is set to hit theaters on July 19th, 2024. Are you looking forward to the film?
