Godzilla Battles a New Titan in GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS Prequel Comic

Before we seen Godzilla battle the giant creatures Rhodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah in director Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, there’s a prequel comic being released to help set it up.

The comic is called Godzilla: Aftershocks, and one of the more exciting aspects of this comic is that it introduces a monstrous new titan that Godzilla will find himself facing off with! The battle between these two titans takes place sometime after the events of the first movie and before the events of the upcoming sequel

You can see the new titan on the cover of the prequel comic below. Below the cover art you’ll find a description of the story:

Here’s the official synopsis:

A new threat is rising, bringing with it devastating earthquakes, and possessing an unstoppable urge to destroy. Godzilla: Aftershock is yet another exhilarating entry into the canon of the MonsterVerse. The brilliant and driven Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell races to stop the threat as clues emerge to reveal a terrible secret, a tragedy of apocalyptic proportions from the distant past that changed the course of human history, is returning to threaten it once more. A shadowy figure stalks Emma’s every move as she travels the globe to uncover secrets, while Godzilla clashes in an ancient rivalry as old as the earth itself. The fate of the world lies in the balance in an epic confrontation that no Godzilla fan will want to miss.

Unfortunately, there’s no information on this new titan. There’s no name given yet, and there are no details on if it is connected in any way to any of the other creatures that have been introduced to the franchise, but it is an “ancient rivalry.” One thing we know for sure is that Godzilla is going to beat it because he survives to show up in the new movie.

Who knows, maybe more giant titans will surprisingly show up in King of the Monsters and this comic is to set up those creatures.

The comic will also offer some additional details on Vera Farmiga‘s character, Dr. Emma Russell, and will most likely include some background on her daughter Madison (Millie Bobby Brown) and her ex-husband Mark (Kyle Chandler), who will also appear in the upcoming movie.

Godzilla: Aftershock was written by Arvid Nelson and illustrated by Drew Johnson. It will be released on April 16, 2019 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters be released on May 31, 2019.
