GODZILLA Crosses Over to MAGIC: THE GATHERING in New IKORIA: LAIR OF BEHEMOTHS Set

Magic: The Gathering recently revealed the new set Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths and it looks awesome. Even if you’re not a fan of MTG, I think we can all appreciate the simple fact that Godzilla is making an appearance in the game. That’s right, the King of Monsters is coming to the classic TCG, and he’s pretty awesome. He’s a Red/Green Legendary Dinosaur with Trample. Furthermore, he has an ability where lethal damage to your creatures has to beat their power and not their toughness. DANG! That’s going to make it harder to kill him as he boasts a whopping 7 power and 3 toughness. It should be noted that the Godzilla crossover cards will not be in boosters, but rather promotional pack-in. For example, Polygon explains that Godzilla, King of the Monsters will be part of a buy-a-box promotion at local retailers. Wizards of the Coast added:

Each Godzilla Monster Series card will feature a monster from the pantheon of the Godzilla franchise as a Magic card from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths. There will be a total of 16 Godzilla Series Monster cards available in English, with three more available only in Japanese.

Godzilla fits Ikoria so well as this plane is all about big monsters. You can find out more about the lore on the official Planeswalker’s Guide if you’re into that, but at the very least it should be understood that this is a savage world. The main planeswalker character from Ikoria is Lukka described as:

Lukka’s world is forever changed when he forms a mystical connection with a ferocious, winged cat. Such bonds are treasonous in Drannith, forcing Lukka to flee from the very home he was sworn to protect. Now an outcast monster ‘bonder,’ Lukka must survive the wilds of Ikoria with the help of planeswaker Vivien Reid.

I’m excited for this set to drop. You’ll be able to enjoy Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths in Magic: The Gathering Arena on April 16 with a physical release on May 15. Pre-orders are now live over on Amazon, too.

On the treacherous world of Ikoria, there's always a bigger monster. Find yours on MTG Arena on April 16. Preorder at your Local Game Store, Amazon, or MTG A...
