GODZILLA MINUS ONE Only Cost $10 Million to Make

Godzilla Minus One has had one hell of a great theatrical run, and it has made over $100 million worldwide so far. We have now learned from Nikkei and Yahoo Japan that the budget for this Godzilla masterpiece was only $10 million at most!

This just goes to show that you don’t need $150-$200 million to make a great epic genre movie! The budget for Legendary’s Godzilla films have all been between $155 and $200 million, and with those budgets… they have no excuse to be as bad as they were. They can actually afford to bring in great talent to develop these things and properly handle the material, but for some reason, they continue to drop the ball.

Then a film like Godzilla Minus One comes along with its $10 million budget and puts all of those films to shame. Hollywood still has a lot to learn about telling great stories in the movies they make. Filmmakers can still make fun movies with huge special effects and still tell a great story. One doesn’t have to be sacrificed for the other, but for some reason, some of these studios can’t quite figure out how to effectively pull it off.

The black and white version of the film, Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, will hit U.S. theaters on Friday, January 26th and it will run in theaters through February 1st.
