GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Has a Massive Opening Weekend at the Box Office
Director Adam Wingard’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire had a very successful opening weekend at the box office, pulling in over $80 million domestically and a total of $194 million globally. I was curious to see how this movie would do with these big tentpole and superhero and genre films have been struggling, but Godzilla x Kong managed to avoid that and bring in the money!
On top of that, the movie currently has an A- CinemaScore, which I wasn’t expecting for this movie. I still have yet to see it, but audiences are clearly enjoying it. Maybe this movie might end up being better than I’m expecting. I don’t know, as you know I have not been excited about this movie because the last couple films were pretty terrible. I’ve eventually watch it, but I’m in no rush.
Some other information comes from PostTrak saying, “96% said the movie either met or exceeded their expectations. Forty-eight percent said they went to the movie because it look fun and exciting, while another 45% said it was part of a franchise they loved. Seventy-two percent want to see a sequel. What influenced moviegoers to go see GxK: 17% said the online trailer, 14% said it was the in-theater trailer, 14% credited social media, while another 14% said they were encouraged by friends and family.”
Godzilla x Kong producer Mary Parent said: “We wanted to deliver something that was highly entertaining to audiences. Nobody has a crystal ball. You can only hope and dream. So, seeing this result globally feels really good and exciting.”
In the film, “The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
The film stars Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong), Brian Tyree Henry (Godzilla vs. Kong), Dan Stevens (Legion), Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong), Alex Ferns (The Batman) and Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
If you watched Godzilla x Kong, let me know what you thought! Is it actually a good movie!?
