GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE Sequel Teased After the Film's Big Box Office Success
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ended up exceeding expectations at the box office since it hit theaters, and Legendary Entertainment is thinking about the future of the franchise.
The movie currently has a disappointing 54% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but a 92% audience score. Audiences are apparently loving this movie and so far the movie has made nearly $363 million world wide.
When talking about those box office numbers, Mary Parent, Chairman of Worldwide Production for Legendary told THR: "This is certainly an exciting result.”
She added: "We are in a good position to continue the journey, but let’s see how Godzilla x Kong unfolds. These are early days, but we are certainly feeling good."
Warner Bros. Domestic President of Production Jeff Goldstein added: "It’s unusual for any movie that’s the fourth or fifth sequel to do this kind of business. In the past Godzilla drew a more general audience. This was a spectacular movie, a spectacular marketing campaign and a spectacular date."
Parent adds: "Everyone made this film out of love. And we spent less on this movie than any of the other film." She also said, "these characters have permeated the culture.”
Director Adam Wingard previously said that he wants to direct one more film that will close out a MonsterVerse trilogy.
He recently shared that he's got some ideas of where the MonsterVerse could go next: "The whole idea that if you've done two movies, like, maybe you should just go ahead and do a third because, as you said, there's a trilogy in there.
He continued: “I definitely think there's more story to this, and I think that I have more story to tell. But it just depends on how [Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire] does and how things kind of shape out.”
He went on to say: "I know that sounds like a bullsh-t diplomatic answer. But the truth is, If I'm going to be completely honest with you, I do have more story to tell with these monsters and I know where I'd go with it. I would be very excited to be able to come back on for another one if things worked out!"
It looks like Wingard is going to get his chance to make that third movie. Did you all see The New Empire? Id so are you excited about about a possible third movie?
