Gore Verbinski Reveals He's Working on Two New Animated Film Projects
If you are a fan of Gore Verbinski’s animated western Rango, you’ll be happy to learn that the filmmaker is developing two more animated film projects! These projects are still in very early development, but Verbinski has also enlisted legendary Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins to work on the films with him. Deakins also worked on Rango, which actually ended up winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2012.
While talking with Collider for Rango’s 10th anniversary, Verbinski shared the news, saying:
“I’m working on two animated movies that I can’t really talk about. I’m working on two screenplays… they’re both animated movies. They’re not Westerns. One is a musical.”
Verbinski went on to says that, “These are so many years out. They take so long that I just… I mean, it’s way too early to talk about them.” When talking about Deakins’ involvement, he said:
“He was like my first call on these two animated movies I’m making now. I was like, ‘Roger, are you in?’ So one of them I’ve pitched him in detail, so he’s going to be coming back and helping us out… really in the shot production of it. He’s busy. He’s very busy.”
Deakins has previously worked on film projects such as Fargo, The Assassination of Jesse James, Blade Runner 2049, and even consulted on animated films like WALL-E, Rise of the Guardians, and the How to Train Your Dragon franchise.
I wish Verbinski would share some details on these new animated projects, but we’ll just have to wait and be patient.
