It was also confirmed that Len Wiseman (Underworld) will direct and produce the series. That's something we reported on about a week ago.

Swamp Thing will follow "CDC researcher Abby Arcane, who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

Here are some additional details on the character Abby Arcane:

Smart and caring, CDC Doctor Abby Arcane’s (Reed) strong sense of empathy puts her at the center of a horrific life-threatening epidemic in her hometown, where she faces emotional demons from her past… while a chance meeting with scientist Alec Holland takes her into a world of horror and the supernatural, and of the elemental creature known as Swamp Thing.

The series is being written and produced by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. James Wan (Aquaman) is also an executive producer on the series. It will be interesting to see who they cast int he Alec Holland.

The studio is looking to launch the series in 2019.
