Grand Admiral Thrawn's Night Troopers Is an Army of the Dead in STAR WARS: AHSOKA!

One of the greatest gifts that Star Wars: Ahsoka has given us so far was in Episode 6, “Far Far, Away,” which featured Grand Admiral Thrawn making his big live-action debut, and to see that he is leading a freakin’ army of the dead! Those Stormtroopers that we were introduced in the episode… they’ve all been risen from the dead!

For those of you who don’t remember in Star Wars Rebels, all of Thrawn’s Stormtroopers who served aboard the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Chimaera were killed, many of them in brutal ways before Thrawn and Ezra blast off to an unknown part of the universe. Well, thanks to the Nightsisters and their magical powers, these Stormtroopers have been brought back to life and they are now known as Night Troopers.

The former Inquisitor Marrok was an undead warrior who was brought back to life by the Nightsisters. He was obviously the prototype used into the series to get us used to the idea this sort of thing could be done. When we eventually see any of these Night Troopers killed, we can expect them to evaporate into green smoke like Marrok.

The Night Troopers are led by Captain Enoch, and they are all sporting a really cool and unique look with the Night Troopers' armor featuring cracks filled with gold and grey accents and red strips of fabric. The Night Trooper’s armor has a Japanese Kintsugi aesthetic. “Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with hardened lacquer dusted or mixed most commonly with gold.”

Thrawn’s undead army will be a force to be reckoned with because while they are expendable, they are sure to be stronger and more vicious than other Stormtroopers.

This whole element is super exciting for me! I’ve always wanted to see an army of zombie Stormtroopers brought to life in a Star Wars story, and here it is! We’ve got two episodes left and I can’t wait to see what happens and what kind of other information we learn about the Night Troopers.
