GRAVITY FALLS: ALTERNATE UNIVERSE Fan Series Drops Trailer With a Dark Role Reversal
The world of Gravity Falls has grown into one of Disney’s most beloved original universes, and fans still aren’t ready to let it go. The mix of absurd humor, supernatural chaos, and deep mystery crafted by Alex Hirsch left a lasting mark after the series wrapped in 2016.
While Disney has yet to officially revive the franchise, fans haven’t been sitting around waiting. A new fan-made animated project titled Gravity Falls: Alternate Universe has just revealed its first trailer, and it flips the show’s mythology on its head in a way that’s already turning heads.
The premise explores a reality where the cosmic chessboard is completely rearranged. Instead of Stanford Pines being pulled into dangerous interdimensional knowledge under Bill Cipher’s watchful eye, the roles are reversed.
In this version of events, Bill becomes the mortal one, while Ford ascends into something far more unsettling. This alternate take reimagines the characters as “Megalomaniac” Stanford Pines and “Simple” Bill Cipher, creating a dynamic that feels familiar and wildly wrong at the same time.
The project is the work of an artist known as Orxa, whose animation style and attention to character detail shine throughout the trailer. The footage teases a darker tone while still feeling rooted in the strange charm that made Gravity Falls special in the first place.
According to the trailer, the full episode is set to premiere on January 30th at 10 AM Eastern, so fans won’t have to wait long to see how deep this alternate reality goes.
Even though Gravity Falls ended nearly a decade ago, the demand for more stories hasn’t slowed down. There’s still no official sequel or spin-off on the books, but Disney has acknowledged ongoing conversations.
In 2024, Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts confirmed discussions with Hirsch, saying, “You know, we’re in conversations with Alex. He’s about to publish a book with Disney on his project. And we also do some shorts. So never say never.”
The original series left plenty of room for future adventures. Dipper and Mabel headed home once summer ended, while Stan and Ford finally took off together to explore the world by boat, leaving Soos in charge of the Mystery Shack. It was a quiet but hopeful ending that made it easy to imagine another summer down the road.
While Disney figures out what the future holds, Gravity Falls: Alternate Universe shows just how passionate and creative this fanbase still is. If the trailer is any indication, this twisted take on Bill and Ford is going to be a fun and unsettling trip back into the woods.
