GRAZILAXX'S GUIDE TO ANCESTRY Takes an Interesting Approach to Character Creation in D&D

I’m slowly seeing a movement of Dungeons & Dragons players wanting less emphasis put on a character’s race, or at least change what kinds of benefits your race gives you. For example, some that I see don’t think your race should give you an Ability Score bonus.

If you are wanting a new way to look at races in D&D, you may want to check out Grazilaxx’s Guide to Ancestry from Realmwarp Media, Adam Hancock, and Laura Hirsbrunner. There’s a lot to this unofficial supplement including changing how one looks at race in D&D, removing Ability Score bonuses based on race, changing the way racial features work to be more flexible via a point buy system.

This supplement has everything set up for all the races from D&D 5th Edition (redubbed Ancestries in this supplement) as well as guidelines to help players create their own Ancestries. The even include optional rules for giving players some kind of Ability Score bonus.

The main core of Grazilaxx’s Guide to Ancestry though is the idea that you can customize your character a bit more through their Ancestry. Essentially, each character gets 6 inheritance points to purchase Major Inheritances (worth 2 each) and Minor Inheritences (worth 1 each). For a Dragonborn, your Major Inheritances would be your breath weapon and the ability to double your proficiency in a skill. Your Minor Inheritances are things like knowing the type and worth of any gem you find or being proficient in Athletics, etc.

This is a very interesting approach to character creation in D&D. I know some people will love this. If you are interested, you can purchase Grazilaxx’s Guide to Ancestry from DMs Guild for $12.95.
