Great Trailer for Jimmy Stewart Biopic JIMMY Follows the Actor From WWII to IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
A great final trailer has been released for the Jimmy Stewart biopic Jimmy, based on the life, military service, and career of the iconic actor.
The film stars KJ Apa in the title role, along with Max Casella as Frank Capra, Kara Killmer as Lady Julia, Julian Works, Sarah Drew, Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer of MGM, Rob Riggle, and Daniel Fee. Aaron Burns (Legacy Peak, Birthright Outlaw) serves as director of the film previously.
The screenplay is written by Justin Strawhand (War Against the Weak). The synopsis reads:
"Based on the untold true story... This new film brings to the big screen the most transformative years of iconic actor Jimmy Stewart's life—from winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story to enlisting & becoming a combat pilot & commander in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II.
“Stewart flew 20 missions over Europe, rising to the rank of colonel, only to return home broken and disheartened. And then George Bailey came calling.”
This looks like a pretty good movie, as it tells the story of a man we all know and love, but with a new perspective on a time in his life that shaped him as well as our American history.
Stewart’s daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, praised Apa’s performance, saying it was “eerie” to see him in character firsthand while she filmed her guest appearance in the film. She told Entertainment Weekly:
“I was thrilled, because the problem with somebody playing dad… was that you don’t want to sit there and listen to a Jimmy Stewart impersonation for two hours.
“And dad has such a distinctive way of speaking. It’s hard not to do an impersonation, but KJ channels him and brings him to life without doing a Jimmy Stewart impersonation. So I don’t see how they could have found anybody better.”
Check out the trailer below, and watch Jimmy when it hits select US theatres on November 6th.
