A New Game for the Original Nintendo Game Boy Called THE SHAPESHIFTER Is Being Released

Here’s something you don’t see every day, the original Game Boy is getting a new physical game. That’s right, the almost 32-year-old handheld is getting a brand new game. The one-person game developer Greenboy Games has launched a Kickstarter for a new game called The Shapeshifter that will release in a few months via digital ROM and physical cartridge. The game looks just like something you’d find 30 years ago, and the music from Cesc Mozota and Oscar Latorre seems spot on.

In the game, you’ll play a person named Elliot who, after going for a weekend in the mountains with their friends, ends up on a quest to help the elves. To aid him in the quest, Elliot is gifted the power to become the animal that they touch. There’s a wide variety of creatures you can become including a bee, an octopus, a spider, and many more. The game will have five chapters which should allow you to play for three-plus hours.

You can get your copy of The Shapeshifter for as little as roughly $13 for the digital ROM or $43 for the physical cartridge. I guess it’s time to dust off the old handheld.
