GREMLINS Animated Prequel Series Ordered by WarnerMedia Streaming Service
Back in February, we reported that Gremlins is getting a new animated series called Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Now we know that the series is moving forward and has gotten a ten-episode order from WarnerMedia’s streaming service. Once Upon a Time and Gotham writer Tze Chun has signed on as writer and executive producer, and Variety reports the following synopsis:
Set in 1920s Shanghai, the series will tell the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.
The streaming service is yet to be named, but is really starting to build its list of series to make its debut. The official launch is loosely set for early 2020, so us fans of the Gremlins franchise had better get ready.
Do you love the Gremlins movies? Is this a series you’re looking forward to?
