GREMLINS Mountain Dew Commercial Reunites Gizmo and Zach Galligan!
Mountain Dew has released a great new commercial inspired by Joe Dante’s 1984 classic film Gremlins. One of the many great things about the ad is that it reunites Gizmo with Zach Galligan back in the role of Billy Peltzer, and Billy still hasn’t learned how to responsibly handle a mogwai!
In an interview with SyFy Wire, Galligan talked about coming back for the commercial saying:
“It was just really exciting to do the very first live-action Gremlins material in 31 years. I was ... not nervous, but apprehensive that the special effects might not be as good as they were. But to my pleasure and subsequent amazement, the technology was razor-sharp, and not surprisingly, but really arguably way better than we had 37 years ago.”
Gizmo does have a slightly different look to him, and he’s older, but it works and the ad made me happy!
The next Gremlins project in development is an animated HBO Max prequel series titled Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
The story is set in 1920s Shanghai, and it tells the story of “how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
Tze Chun (Children of Invention, Gotham) will write and co-executive produce the 10-episode series.
