GREMLINS 3 Set For 2027 with Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus Reuniting
It’s official, the mischievous little monsters are making a comeback. Warner Bros. has officially set Gremlins 3 for release on November 19, 2027, marking the first live-action Gremlins film in nearly thirty years.
The project was revealed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav during the company’s third-quarter earnings call, where he confirmed that Chris Columbus, the original director of the 1984 classic, will return to direct and produce the new film.
Steven Spielberg is also back as executive producer through his Amblin Entertainment banner, reuniting with Columbus to breathe new life into one of cinema’s most beloved creature franchises.
The first Gremlins film became a massive pop-culture phenomenon when it hit theaters in 1984, earning $165 million worldwide and spawning endless merchandise, collectibles, and spin-offs.
The 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, didn’t reach the same box office heights, bringing in $41 million, but it has since developed a loyal cult following because of how bonkers it was. The franchise’s lasting popularity even led to an animated prequel series on Max, proving those pesky Mogwai still have plenty of life left in them.
During the call, Zaslav used the announcement to highlight Warner Bros.’ growing strength as a theatrical powerhouse, saying: “The studio is now where creatives want to be. It has taken time and investment, and the process has not been without setbacks. … but Warner Bros. Discovery is back and stronger than ever.”
It’s been a massive year for the studio, which currently leads the box office both domestically and globally, with no more films set to release in 2025. While Disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is still on deck for December, it remains to be seen whether it can shake up the year-end numbers.
The announcement also arrived amid ongoing speculation about Warner Bros. Discovery’s future, with multiple acquisition offers reportedly on the table, including firm buyout proposals from Paramount Skydance.
Whether WBD ends up splitting or being sold outright, one thing we do know is that Gremlins 3 will mark a major return for a classic franchise under the studio’s evolving banner.
After decades of waiting, fans will finally get to see Gizmo and company back on the big screen. With Spielberg and Columbus steering the chaos once again, this could be the perfect mix of nostalgia and fresh mischief to remind audiences why they fell in love with these creatures in the first place.
