Greta Gerwig Talks About Her Next Film Project THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA and Why She's Terrified to Take It On

Barbie director Greta Gerwig is signed on to take on the classic beloved book series The Chronicles of Narnia at Netflix. It was officially announced last summer that she would be taking on at least two films based on the story in the books by C.S. Lewis, and she was able to speak out a bit about her concern over taking on such a widely known and beloved series.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4 Today, Gerwig talked about both her love of the stories, as well as her fears, saying:

“I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia. I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by. As a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly… it’s like when Americans do Shakespeare, there’s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should treat it with extra care. It is not our countryman.”

Her nerves seem to suggest that she will come at the project with both the source material and the fans in mind, and it helps that she is one herself. Gerwig is a three-time (more than likely, soon to be five-time) Oscar-nominated writer and director, and it seems that everything she touches turns to gold, so I look forward to seeing her vision for Narnia, which is headed into production presently.
