Gripping Trailer for Historical Drama EMILY About the Gothic Writer Emily Brontë

A beautifully moving new trailer has been released for the historical drama Emily, which follows the life and career of the writer Emily Brontë as she created what became her only novel, Wuthering Heights. The film stars Emma Mackey (Sex Education) as Emily, and she is joined by Alexandra Dowling (The Musketeers), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House), Amelia Gething (The Spanish Princess), Fionn Whitehead (The Duke), Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty), and Gemma Jones (Gentleman Jack). The film is written and directed by Golden Globe-winning actress Frances O’Connor (Blessed) in her feature directorial debut.

The synopsis reads:

“The film tells the imagined life of one of the world’s most famous authors, Emily Brontë. It features Emily, a rebel and misfit who finds her voice and writes the literary classic Wuthering Heights. The film explores the relationships that inspired her – her raw, passionate sisterhood with Charlotte and Anne; her first aching, forbidden love for Weightman, and her care for her maverick brother whom she idolizes.”

This looks beautifully made, and I look forward to checking it out. Watch the trailer below, and see Emily in theaters after it debuts at Toronto International Film Festival, followed by its U.K. theatrical debut on October 14. It currently has no U.S. release date, but we will keep you posted.
