GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Origins Clip - Star Lord Meets Yondu

As you know, Marvel and Disney have a new Guardians of the Galaxy animated series coming out. Before the show premieres, though, Disney XD will release a series of two-minute animated short films that will focus on the origin stories of some of the characters. We'll get back stories for Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, and Groot.

Today, a clip of one of these shorts has been released that shows us Peter Quill's first close encounter with the alien pirate Yondu. I've gotta say, I'm impressed with what I'm seeing. The animation is better than anything Marvel has done recently. This could end up being a really great show.

The series stars Will Friedle as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, David Sobolov as Drax the Destroyer, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot, and James Arnold Taylor as Yondu and Cosmo.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.

Just a reminder that the stuff you see in this animated series is not canon to what is happening in the MCU. The series is its own separate thing, and it premieres on September 26th. However, there will be a sneak peek at the first episode on September 5th, on Disney XD.

ETonline has your out-of-this-world first look at part two of Disney XD's new animated 'Guardians of the Galaxy' series!
