Gugu Mbatha-Raw Uncovers Dark Family Secrets in Trailer for Sky’s Supernatural Thriller Series POSSESSION

Sky has released the first trailer for its upcoming psychological drama Possession, giving audiences a glimpse at what looks like a gripping mystery packed with family secrets, buried history, and unsettling discoveries.

The five-part limited series stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki) and was previously developed under the title Inheritance. The project was created and written by Karla Crome (Something Very Bad is Going to Happen), with Storm Saulter (Better Mus’ Come, Sprinter) directing all five episodes.

The story centers on Claudia, played by Mbatha-Raw, an ambitious young bi-racial lawyer who travels to Jamaica to dispute an inheritance claim. What begins as a legal battle soon turns into something much more personal and disturbing.

The official synopsis explains: “Claudia, an ambitious young bi-racial lawyer, travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim made by a local man, Cudjoe East, against Oliver Connaught, a wealthy white aristocrat.

“But the case takes an unsettling turn when Claudia discovers that the disputed estate is the very place that has haunted her nightmares: Hope Hill, the Connaught family’s former plantation.

As Claudia and Oliver dig deeper, they uncover a disturbing link between the plantation’s brutal past and the injustices still shaping the present.”

The combination of a legal dispute, personal trauma, family legacy, and the lingering impact of history gives Possession plenty of intriguing layers to explore. The trailer leans into the mystery and psychological tension, hinting that Claudia’s connection to Hope Hill runs much deeper than anyone initially realizes.

Joining Mbatha-Raw is an impressive cast that includes Jonny Lee Miller (The Crown, Elementary), Sheldon Shepherd (Bob Marley: One Love, Better Mus’ Come), and Bel Powley (A Small Light, The Morning Show).

Possession is produced by Snowed-In in association with Sky Studios and is based on an original story created by Jefferson Bannis.

The series will premiere on Sky in the UK and Ireland, with NBC handling international sales.
