GUILD WARS 2 Is Teasing a Return to Cantha with Third Expansion and More Details for THE ICEBROOD SAGA

A couple of weeks ago, I was playing some Guild Wars 2, and I got hit with an odd nostalgic desire to go to the land of Cantha. Cantha was the location for Guild Wars: Factions, the first expansion for the first game, and it was heavily inspired by Asia. It brought some cool things to the table, but I’ll admit that overall the world designs and enemies felt pretty uninspiring. I felt like I was just running around on sheet metal roofs the entire time I was in any kind of city. That’s why I describe my nostalgia as odd.

Well, if you’re like me and wish that you could revisit Cantha, we may be getting our wish. In a recent post about what’s going to happen in the game during the spring (including information regarding the third episode of The Icebrood Saga), the team did reveal that they’re working on the third expansion of Guild Wars 2. While no details were provided, they did include the image that I’ve included at the top. It’s pretty obvious that there’s an Asian influence there which can only point to Cantha, right?

If you care more about the Living World (I don’t blame you), we did get more information about the next chapter. Players will be able to capture and defend territories in PvE similar to the format in WvW.

Bangar’s war machine has driven out of the Far Shiverpeaks and farther west, to the dense forests of the Woodland Cascades—an area inspired by the beautiful Pacific Northwest that ArenaNet calls home.

What are you most excited about for the future of Guild Wars 2?
