Guillermo del Toro Confirms SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Will Start Shooting in a Few Days

Having grown up on the wonderfully horrific Alvin Schwartz book series, Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark, I'm extremely interested to see how this upcoming film adaptation turns out. The fact that Guillermo del Toro is involved with the development gives me hope that it will be as good as it should be.

Today Del Toro has confirmed that production on the film will start in a few days!

The story is said to follow "a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town."

One thing that I really hope to see in this movie is those creepy-ass visuals from the book being brought to life. Those things gave me nightmares when I was growing up! It will be interesting to see how they handle these stories in the film. I have high hopes for this one.

The movie will be directed by André Øvredal (Troll Hunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe) from a script co-written by del Toro, Daniel Hageman, and Kevin HagemanSteve Bertram, eOne’s President, Film, Television and Digital had this to say in a previous statement:

"(The film), led by the incomparable Guillermo del Toro, is such a chillingly fun ride that it’s sure to leave audiences around the world jumping in their seats. We’re thrilled to be joining Terry Press and her team at CBS Films, Guillermo, André Øvredal, and the talented group they’ve assembled, and look forward to launching in Cannes through our partners at Sierra/Affinity."

The movie will shoot in Toronto and Ontario. CBS Films will distribute the film in the US through Lionsgate.
