Guillermo Del Toro Expands His Horror World with Netflix’s THE BOY IN THE IRON BOX Cast Reveal
Guillermo del Toro is bringing another chilling story to Netflix, and he’s lined up a killer cast. Rupert Friend, Kevin Durand, and Jaeden Martell will lead the feature adaptation of The Boy in the Iron Box, based on the six-part novella series co-written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
Originally published through Amazon Original Stories, The Boy in the Iron Box follows a team of mercenaries whose plane crash-lands on a snowy, isolated mountaintop.
Seeking shelter, they stumble across a massive stone fortress, but it quickly becomes clear that the labyrinth-like stronghold isn’t a sanctuary. With wolves circling outside and something much worse waiting within, survival turns into a nightmare.
David Prior, who previously worked with del Toro on Netflix’s Cabinet of Curiosities, will direct from his own script. Del Toro is producing alongside his longtime partner J. Miles Dale, with filming scheduled to begin in October.
This new project arrives just ahead of the November release of del Toro’s highly anticipated Frankenstein adaptation, which stars Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi. It will get a limited theatrical release on October 17, and then hit Netflix on November 7. Del Toro is also taking center stage this fall with a 12-film retrospective at Beyond Fest and a stint as guest artistic director at AFI Fest.
Between the brutal survival horror of The Boy in the Iron Box and the gothic monster madness of Frankenstein, it looks like del Toro fans are going to have plenty to look forward to on Netflix this fall and beyond.
