Guillermo del Toro Has Cast Rooney Mara in His Next Film NIGHTMARE ALLEY
Actress Rooney Mara, known for her roles in The Social Network, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Carol, has been hired to come aboard Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) upcoming film, Nightmare Alley.
Mara joins the previously cast Bradley Cooper (Guardians of the Galaxy, American Hustle), Cate Blanchett (The Aviator, Blue Jasmine), Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, Aquaman), Michael Shannon (Midnight Special, The Shape of Water), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Little Miss Sunshine), and Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water, Step Brothers).
Talk about a star-studded cast! And it’s pretty fun that most of these actors have worked together before on other films, some of them directed by del Toro. Deadline reports the following synopsis for the del Toro-written script:
The film is based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel about a corrupt con-man who teams with a female psychiatrist to trick people into giving them money. Mara plays Molly, the closest thing to Stan’s true love. He meets her early on and they take the act they learned from the circus to Chicago. Cooper plays Stan.
This is great casting from a great filmmaker. Nightmare Alley is in pre-production. Are you excited for this film?
