A big announcement was recently made at the Lumière Film Festival, Cannes by the director of the festival, Thierry Fremaux, as he presented the recent director’s cut of Michael Mann’s Heat. Fremaux revealed that iconic director Guillermo del Toro is making a documentary about Michael Mann.
There are not a lot of details known about the project and it's not clear if it will be a feature, or if it’ll be more like a bonus feature on a release like The Criterion Collection. But it is pretty cool to know that a brilliant filmmaker wants to make a movie about another brilliant filmmaker. Del Toro is an admitted fan of Mann's work:
Film: Heat by Michael Mann. Top three Mann. A film that is part of the lexicon of the medium. A stark Western set in a hyperreal LA.— Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) December 20, 2015
If you could choose two filmmakers, one to make the movie and the other to be the subject matter, who would you choose? Let us know in the comments.
I for one would love to see Edgar Wright direct a documentary about Quentin Tarantino.
