Guillermo del Toro Is Teaming Up With Director Issa López for a Werewolf Western

The art above is from the comic book High Moon and it was created by artist Steve Ellis. This is not afliated with the movie. I just thought the art was cool!

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is teaming up with Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid ) for an untitled werewolf western, and I couldn’t be more excited for it!

We don’t get enough good horror/supernatural westerns, so when I see something like this go into development, I can’t help but get excited to see it. López recently talked with EW about the project saying:

“Yes, I have a movie with Guillermo del Toro, who not only became a champion of that movie but said, ‘What are you going to do next? Let’s do something!’ I could not believe that. So, we’re prepping a werewolf movie, a supernatural Western. It’s a werewolf-Western! I’m super excited. He has the script, I wrote it, he loves it, and we’re gearing up to make it. The thing is, there’s not really that many brilliant, brilliant werewolf movies. An American Werewolf in London is the big one. I think it’s time to revisit.”

When teasing what the film is about, Issa said:

“It’s about revisiting the essence of what it is, which is trying to contain the beast in you. It’s as simple as that, and I think that’s perfectly relatable with humankind, and particularly the moment that we’re living in.”

The film that Del Toro championed of hers was Tigers Are Not Afraid, which has been getting rave reviews. Stephen King said, “This is one terrific film… two minutes in, I was under its spell.” Neil Gaiman shared his thoughts saying, “A fairytale for today, beautiful shocking and chilling, it celebrates the power of belief and resilience. Issa López has made the most powerful story of its kind since Pan’s Labyrinth.”

I’m not sure what to expect from this werewolf western, but I like the concept and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
