Guillermo del Toro Starts Shooting PACIFIC RIM 2 in November

Pacific Rim 2 has been a long time coming, but it's finally going to start getting heavy into development now that director Guillermo del Toro is finished with Crimson Peak. He revealed to Yahoo! in a recent interview that he was going to start shooting the film in November. He didn't offer any major details about the story, but he did say:

“We have an epic battle at the end [that] we started designing a couple weeks ago.”

Of course there's going to be an epic battle at the end! It wouldn't be a proper giant robot vs. Kaiju sequel if there wasn't. The story for the movie picks up a few years after the first one left off and it will put more focus on the Kaiju. There's also a good chance that we'll see a Jaeger and Kaiju hybrid. In a previous interview, the director talked about how the second film would lead up to a third.

“Some of your favorite characters come back, some others don’t because we have decided that we’re going to shoot ambitiously and say ‘Let’s hope we have three movies,’ so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one.”

Pacific Rim 2 is currently set for release on August 4th, 2017.
